Giving WPX3's import PDF a whirl
Also known as opening a PDF file. One of the new features in WordPerfect X3 is the ability to open a PDF file right in the WordPerfect editing screen.
With this feature, the PDF opens as an unsaved document. It can then be edited as a word processing document without any additional opening, copying, or pasting. And, of course, once opened, it can be re-saved as a PDF, or any other format, for that matter.
I've spent some time over the last week trying out this new feature, and it works exactly as I expected it would.
It should be noted, though, that I don't generally work with anything more than straight text documents – specifically, things like answers to interrogatories. If the PDF uses graphics, or non-text features, like some newsletters (just as an example), there may be some formatting issues on open. Along those same lines, if the PDF was created as a JPEG or a BMP, the open as PDF feature won't really do you any good.
However, I should also mention that for me, personally, I've become so accustomed to working with PDFs without the ability to open them as a word processing document. Also, I'm not particularly fond of sending out my own documents in someone else's style – fonts, spacing, etc. It my sound strange, but my documents usually have a distinctive style of their own. Hey, it's one of my trademarks.
EDIT to add: The open and edit PDFs feature is not included with the Home Edition of WordPerfect X3.
